Lusaka City Mayor, Her Worship Ms. Chilando Chitangala this morning took part in the Absa Virtual Marathon where she walked 5 Kilometers to raise awareness on Climate Change.
The event was graced by the Minister of Sports, Youth and Art, Mr. Elvis Nkandu MP.
Speaking at the event, the Mayor noted that there is need to identify alternative solutions to energy in the city other than the use of charcoal which largely contributes to climate change through the cutting down of trees.
Ms. Chitangala observed that the fight on climate change demands concerted efforts by everyone as the effects also spare no one.
She said residents of Lusaka should take the opportunity of the on coming rains to help the local authority mitigate the effects of climate change by planting a tree at their residence and make Lusaka the tree town.
“Let’s all plant a tree each at home” she said.
The City Mother has challenge individuals and companies to come up with measures that will help in mitigating the effects of climate change in the city.
Ms. Chitangala also took the opportunity to urged the public to take ownership of the Keep Zambia Clean Green and Healthy campaign to ensure no floods and associated diseases in the City.
The Mayor has thanked Absa for organizing the marathon and help the city keep fit.
