A group of Zambian employees at Kansanshi mine have written to the North Western Province Minister Robert Lihefu complaining over the continued stay of a named manager in one of the mine departments.

According to a letter addressed to Mr. Lihefu, the employees disclosed that the expatriate manager in question does not possess the qualifications to accord him the position he currently is holding hence their complaint.

They further disclosed in their letter that the appointment of the manager in question was rejected by the Mines and Safety Department at the Ministry of Mines and Mineral Development.

“But to our surprise, the man is still the manager in the department, so we are wondering as what is happening hence writing your able office to intervene in the matter,” reads the letter in part.

The miners have further complained that the said manager has a tendency of harassing and using derogatory language against Zambian employees.

They have since appealed to the provincial minister to come to their aid.

Mr lihefu however could not be reached for a comment by press time.

But Kansanshi mine Public Relations manager Godfrey Msiska disclosed that appointments into roles at the mine are based on qualifications, experience and expertise.

“And this applies to all roles in all sectors of the business,” said Mr Msiska.

He also stated that there is an internal procedure for grievances where employees are free to raise any grievances they have in the work place.

He further stated that another avenue, should the employees still feel their grievances are not being addressed is through the unions and labour office.
“But this particular grievance has not been brought to the attention of management by any of our employees,” he said.
