The Southern African Centre for the Constructive Resolution of Disputes (SACCORD), has congratulated all the political parties and candidates who managed to successfully file in their nominations for the forthcoming Kabwata by-election.
SACCORD Executive Director Boniface Cheembe said SACCORD welcomes the fact that the filing in process was largely peaceful, and this is how it must be.
Mr. Cheembe has since appealed to all political parties and candidates to refrain from engaging in any acts of political violence and violent communication as campaigns ensue, by ensuring that the electoral laws are followed.
“We equally call upon the Zambia Police Service (ZPS) to provide adequate security to all political parties and their candidates and ensure that there is proper harmonization of the campaign schedules,” Mr. Cheembe said.
He has also appealed for the professional administration of the Public Order Act (POA), so that all candidates and parties are given an opportunity to peacefully market their manifestos and messages to electorates that is desirable of solutions to the many challenges that they face.
