Senior chief Mujimanzonvu of the Kaonde speaking people in Mushindamo district has called upon every well meaning Zambian to joins hands with government and support the fight against COVID-19.
The traditional leader states that the fight against the pandemic through vaccination is very important and it requires concerted efforts as it hinges on human life.
He said to try and downplay the importance of vaccination and other preventive measures that government has put in place is suicidal.
He said there is need to act responsibly in order to save the country from social and economic collapse.
“And we can only do that if at individual, household and community level we join hands with government by observing the golden rules as well as vaccination,” said the traditional leader.
He said it is being irresponsible for people to work against the efforts being put in place to prevent the further spread of the pandemic.
He dispelled assertions by some sections of society that the vaccines have very strong side effects.
“I myself got vaccinated the very first time the vaccines where introduced, and up to now, I have never experienced any of the side effects people talk about.
“They are very safe and they are purely meant to save life. So people should not fear at all,” he said.
The traditional leader was speaking during a media breakfast with the Special Advisor to the President on COVID-19 Prof Roma Chilengi in Solwezi.
