7th December 2021 will be a day that has a different meaning to Zambians, as the world celebrates International Civil Aviation Day under the theme: “Advancing Innovation for Global Aviation Development”, Zambia Airways is also celebrating its 1st week of taking to the skies after nearly 30 years.
The United Nations officially recognised December 7 as International Civil Aviation Day in 1996.
The first celebration of International Civil Aviation was held in the year 1994 as part of the International Civil Aviation organisation’s ICAO 50th anniversary celebration activities.
The purpose of International Civil Aviation Day is to help generate and reinforce worldwide awareness of the importance of international civil aviation to the social and economic development of States, and of the unique role of ICAO in helping States to cooperate and realize a truly global rapid transit network at the service of all mankind.
Every five years, coinciding with ICAO anniversaries (2014/2019/2024/2029/etc.), the ICAO Council establishes a special anniversary theme for International Civil Aviation Day.
The Council has decided that from now until 2023, the theme will be: “Advancing Innovation for Global Aviation Development”.
