Chongwe Municipal Council Town Clerk Mulowa Sishumba has called on senior headmen and women of Chongwe district to spearhead the Community Led Total sanitation programs in the fight against open defecation.

Mr. Sishumba says it will take the commitment of the entire community to curb further spread of waterborne diseases such as diarrhea, cholera dysentery among others in communities.

He says statistics reflect that Chongwe District has shown very low compliance towards the implementation of the Community Led Total Sanitation programs since its inception in 2013.

Mr. Sishumba said this in a speech read on his behalf by Director of Public Health Clive Kaoma during World Toilet day commemoration which was held at Mutamino Health post in Chinkuli Ward of Chongwe district.

He further commended the D-Washe Committee that is working in partnership with World Vision for embarking on a Re-triggering program of which over 200 out of 256 villages have been retriggered.

Meanwhile representative from District Health Office Raphael Kasonde appealed to community members to Join the fight in achieving proper sanitation.

And head woman Chipanama thanked the various stakeholders that were present in today’s commemoration for world toilet day and urged her community members to practice good sanitation.

This is contained in a statement issued to the media by chongwe municipal council public Relations Officer Cecilia Mukonkela Musonda
