Director for the Center for Primary Care Research and Chairperson for the Zambia Tobacco Control Consortium, Fastone Goma has urged the ministry of health to expedite the process of taking the most important tobacco control Bill to the current sitting of the legislative parliament.
Speaking at the media briefing held in Lusaka today Prof Goma said the legislators should not spend too much time on this matter as there are more important matters awaiting them in considering the heath of the nation.
He said it is worrying that the tobacco bill which seeks to foster the interest of the tobacco industry will be enacted into law without adequate legislation in place to safeguard the health and other developmental issues associated with tobacco and its consumption.
Prof Goma has since called on the media to take advantage of the upcoming AU meeting to engage leaders on the tobacco control.
