The Government has given Kafubu Water and Sanitation Company KWSC limited a go ahead to sign an agreement with a foreign financier for the implementation of a floating solar electricity generation power project in Masaiti District on the copper belt.
The Ministry of Justice has given the consent after thorough study of the solar project Memorandum of Understanding between the utility and a named foreign based firm.
Kafubu Water and Sanitation Company KWSC Managing Director Engineer Mwaba says the document has since been submitted to the Public Private Partnership PPP unit at the Ministry of Finance.
Engineer Mwaba says the solar project is pegged at between 600 to 900 million United States dollars.
On completion, the solar power project will generate six hundred megawatts of power on a daily basis.
Engineer. Mwaba says on completion, the project will create hundreds of direct and indirect jobs for locals.
Engineer. Mwaba says the development of the solar floating power project is expected to resume in the first quarter of 2022.
The Kafulafuta Water Supply System project is 87 percent done and has already gobbled 449 million United States dollars.
The energy production on the surface of the Kafulafuta dam will not infringe other benefits for which the dam has been constructed including the quality and quantity of the water.
Mr. Mwaba adds that the generated power will be tapped into the existing National grid and excess sold to major mining firms in neighbouring countries.
The Ministry of Energy and the Energy Regulation Board ERB including the Water Management Resources Agency have also endorsed the solar floating energy project.
The Kafubu Water and Sanitation Company KWSC Managing Director said this today when he conferred with Diamond TV Chief Executive Officer Costa Mwansa.
Mr. Mwaba has since commended Diamond TV for the role that the media outlet is contributing to the development of the country through churning out News and information in a professional manner.
Meanwhile, Diamond TV CEO Costa Mwansa says he was on the Copperbelt to enhance synergies with the business community in the region.
