An African hip-hop website has nominated Lusaka rapper Holstar for an award where he is slated to battle it out with some of the finest names the genre has to offer on the African continent.
Creative-HipHop.com has shortlisted the Zone Fam founder whose real name is Duncan Sodala in two different categories namely East African Rapper of 2021 and African Hip Hop Artiste of 2021 at the inaugural Creative Africa Hip Hop Awards (CAHHA).
In the East African category, Holstar has been nominated together with Malawi’s Dominant 1 who coincidentally recorded a collaborative EP with the Zambian rapper earlier in the year.
Others in the category are Khaligraph Jones of Kenya and Uganda’s Tucker HD.
In the African Hip-Hop Artiste category, the rapper faces stiffer competition from the likes of Ghana’s Sarkodie, South African artists A-Reece, Priddy Ugly, 25K, Youngsta CPT and Blxckie.
Other names are Loose Kaynon, A-Q and Blaqbonez all from Nigeria.
The website said different writers, producers and fans from around the continent contributed to short listing the artists.
Creative-HipHop.com is determined to honour artists for their work on the African continent.
“We will be handing out virtual awards on our website to some of the best and most consistent African Hip-Hop artists every year just to let them know we see all they do and to also let them know they’re appreciated,” a statement on website read.
Holstar has released four projects in the last year including one album, two collaborative EPs and one solo EP.
