Local Government and Rural Development Minister Gary Nkombo has accused Kasempa Town council chairperson Brian Kakonkanya for allowing some United Party for National Development (UPND) members to harass council management.
According to a letter dated 12 October 2021 addressed to Mr. Kakonkanya and signed by Mr. Nkombo, the Minister disclosed that it has come to his attention that he (Kakonkanya) allowed the UPND members to harass council management on allegations that some officers are members of the former ruling party.
Mr. Nkombo states that the behaviour is uncalled for especially that President Hakainde Hichilema has warned against any acts of lawlessness.
He said if anyone has grievances against public workers, there are right channels that can be followed without taking the law in their own hands.
The minister has since sternly cautioned Mr. Kakonkanya against allowing such acts as it has potential to tarnish the name of the party.
But when contacted for a comment, Mr. Kakonkanya could not be reached by press time as his mobile phone number was off.
Last week some UPND members stormed Kasempa civic center building demanding for the removal of the council secretary and other senior staff on allegations that they where PF members.
