Gospel artiste Magnus Mando has released his third and final album which serves as the final chapter to the Mag44 brand.
In this farewell 16-track body of work, the rapper combines a plethora of artists both legendary and new school to deliver classic Mag44 sound.
The new album entitled ‘Mr. Mando’ is meant to take fans on a nostalgic ride, with flavour familiar with Mag44’s over a decade-long music experience.
The album is a celebratory masterpiece honouring the past success while ushering in a new phase of the talented producer and rapper’s artistry.
The Sux rapper said working on the album was the perfect transition from his Mag44 moniker to the next move.
“It marks a very important evolutionary step to where I’m going with the music. I’ll be honest, I have another album that I was working on which I had to push forward because I kind of felt like it was skipping a step in between the ‘Jijue’ and ‘Brave Only’. I feel like the ‘Mr. Mando’ album is important before going to the next step of my journey as an artist.
This album is very important because it helps connect and bridge the two worlds of where I’m going and where I’m coming from,” Mando said.
Mag44 recruited Zambezi symphony legend Nasty D and former National Arts Council (NAC) chairperson Mulenga Kapwepwe as being among guest acts on the project.
He described working with legends as a surreal experience.
“Working with those people is something amazing. These are people I heard about in the industry as I was coming up. I think at the time mum Mulenga Kapwepwe was chairperson of NAC and Nasty D had the number one song at the time, I think it was ‘Aitaya’. These were people who were part of a defining time of what Zambian music is,” he said.
Others on the album are veteran musician Manase formerly known as MK-V alongside the usual suspects in the form of Pompi, Esther Chungu and Solomon Plate.
The title track ‘Mr. Mando’ interestingly features veteran journalist Kunda Mando who happens to be his older sister.
Contemporary acts like rapper Dope G of the Zone Fam fame, AFRIMMA award winner Cleo Ice Queen, Wezi and Koby also make the cut for the album.
Notable names in the gospel arena like Ephraim, Chileshe Bwalya and highly talented folk musician James Sakala also make guest appearances on the record.
Mag 44 has yet again proved his highly skillful level of versatility by producing and being involved in the writing of the entire project.
The album, which dropped on the 19th of December, is available on all major streaming platforms.
