THE Nursing and Midwifery Council of Zambia (NMCZ) has prohibited Zenith Professional Institute situated in Kafue district from conducting training of student nurses and midwives.
NMCZ Legal council and spokesperson Etambuyu Mulele said it had come to her attention that Zenith Professional Institute had been illegally training student nurses and Midwives without obtaining the council’s approval.
Ms. Mulele explained that the said institute had been advertising nursing and Midwifery training programs to prospective students without the requisite council approval.
“All training institutions intending to offer nursing and midwifery training programs must obtain a certificate of approval from the Council in accordance with section 35 of the nurses and midwives Act,” she said.
Ms. Mulele added “the Council does not therefore recognize the nursing and Midwifery program being offered at Zenith Professional Institute nor the students registered and training there,”.
She said Section 4 (c) and (d) of the nurses and midwives Act mandates the council to set and enforce professional standards in nursing and Midwifery education, training and practice as well as to approve training programs, In doing so, the council approves all training programmes in nursing and midwifery
Ms. Mulele therefore warned the public to desist from accessing or undergoing nursing and midwifery training at the said institution as the said programs was not by the council and was being offered contrary to the provisions of the Act.
