North Western Province Permanent Secretary Col Grandson Katambi has disclosed that the provincial administration has embarked on a program to carry out an audit on contracts both in the private and public sector.

Col Katambi said the provincial administration has taken up the initiative because they want an even distribution of contracts.

He said he is aware that previously, the contracts where being awarded on partisan lines.

“But what we want to is a situation where every Zambian benefits from these contracts provided they have what it takes to execute that project,” said Col Katambi.

He said every Zambian has a legal right to engage in any business without being blocked.

He said the provincial administration will not take kindly the awarding of contracts on partisan lines going forward as it is disadvantaging others.

Col Katambi was speaking when United Party for National Development (UPND) national youth chairperson Gilbert Liswaniso called on him.

And Mr. Liswaniso told Col Katambi that he has embarked on vigorous program of visiting all the districts in order to interact with the party members especially the youths.

He said the initiative taken by the provincial administration is well thought as it is in line with President Hakainde Hichilema’s policy of evenly distribution of wealth through contracts.

“And that is why through my program of going round the country, am encouraging youths to come with cooperatives so that they are able to participate in these contracts,” he said.
