Government through the Ministry of Agriculture has assured that the country has more maize in stock than it would need for a whole year, which guarantees food security despite the poor rainfall pattern experienced so far.
Agriculture Minister Hon Reuben Mtolo Phiri said the ministry is also seriously analyzing what to offload on the market from the storage facilities if any on a monthly basis.
Hon Phiri has further revealed that the country has about 2 million metric tonnes of maize in storage facilities to date.
The minister was responding to a question from a journalist who wanted to find out what plans government has to mitigate the expected food crisis arising from the drought experienced in the country.
