Zambezi Town Council has announced that it will commence the formation of Ward Development Committees (WDCs) in all the two constituencies in the district this week.

The move is aimed at ensuring community participation in developmental matters as enshrined in the Constitution.

This came to light when the local authority presented the guidelines on the establishment, Management and operation of the WDCs to the special District Development Coordinating Committee (DDCC) meeting held in the Council Chamber on Friday.

Zambezi Town Council Secretary Reuben Simfukwe said WDCs are key in government’s development agenda especially that it is in the process of fully implementing the decentralisation policy.

“And our plan as a local authority is that by this week, we should be commencing the training of WDCs in all the wards in both constituencies,” said Mr. Simfukwe.

He applauded government for the increase in allocation of Constituency Development Funds (CDF) and bringing resources closer to communities for sustainable development.

Mr. Simfukwe stated that there is need for all government departments and communities to work together in The utilisation of funds especially that Zambezi has two Constituencies.

“And as a local authority, we will endeavor to run an open door policy for consultations on Developmental matters.”

And acting Zambezi District Commissioner Sombo Mazeze urged officers tasked with the formation WDCs to be non-partisan in order to avoid a compromise in the formulation WDCs.
