Some United Party for National Development (UPND) members in Chavuma have protested the appointment of Mr. Geoffrey Kasonda as District Commissioner (DC).
Mr. Kasonda was appointed DC following the revocation of Mr. Patrick Nshindanyi’s appointment as Chavuma DC.
The protesting UPND members have appealed to President Hakainde Hichilama to reinstate Patrick Shindanyi as the District Commissioners.
They wondered why a presidential appointment could easily be revoked on unsubstantiated claims and accusations.
Speaking on behalf of other members Joseph Chinyama said the party in the district is disappointed with what is obtaining on the ground.
Mr. Chinyama said they were happy with the appointment of Mr. Nshindanyi but that they are disappointed with the way his appointment was revoked.
“We know there are external forces behind the whole thing, but we appealing to the powers that be to look into this situation with the urgency it deserves,” he said.
He accused the area Member of Parliament Victor Lumai of being behind the revocation of Mr. Nshindanyi appointment saying if Mr. Nshindanyi will not be reinstated as DC, the members in Chavuma are ready to ditch the ruling party and join the opposition.
“If you maintain Mr. Kasonda as DC, all of us in Chavuma are leaving the party,” he said.
Another member Lewis Sewe demanded for the immediate reinstatement of Mr. Nshindanyi as DC.
“We don’t want Kasonda to be out DC let Mr. Nshindanyi be reinstated or we leave the party,” he said.
The UPND members have since accused Mr. Lumai of engineering the dismissal of Patrick Shindanyi.
But when contacted for a comment, Mr. Lumai’s phone went unanswered by press time.
